Ammonia Based Cleaners – Vinegar and Water
Abrasive Cleaners – Rub area with ½ lemon dipped in borax, then rinse
Floor/Furniture Polish – 1 part lemon juice, 2 parts lemon or vegetable oil
Silver Polish – Soak in boiling water with baking soda, salt, and a piece of aluminum
Toilet Cleaner – Baking Soda and a toilet brush
Disinfectants – ½ cup borax in 1 gallon water
Drain Cleaners – Plunger, flush with boiling water, ¼ cup baking soda, ¼ cup vinegar
Rug/Upholstery Cleaners – Dry cornstarch, sprinkle on, vacuum clean
Mothballs – Cedar chips, newspapers, lavender flowers
Enamel/Oil-based Paints – Latex or water based paints
House Plant Insecticide – Old dishwater or bar soap and water, spray on leaves, then rinse
Flea & Tick Collar/Sprays – Gradually add Brewer’s Yeast and garlic to pet’s diet
Roach Killer – Baking Soda and powdered sugar mix
Ant Killer – Chili powder to hinder entrance, Borax
Window Cleaner – Plain cold unsweetened tea or white vinegar in a spray bottle
To keep dogs from urinating in an area, sprinkle the area with chili powder.
Here is a recipe for an all-purpose household cleaner:
- ½ cup Borax
- 2 cups Boiling Water
- ½ tsp Dishwasher Detergent
- 2 cups Cold Water
- 1 ¼ Tbsp Ammonia
Put Borax into mixing bowl, stir in the boiling water. When the Borax has dissolved and the water is clear, gently stir in the dishwashing detergent. Add cold water, then ammonia. Pour this concentrate into a quart size container.
To Use: Walls, Floors: 1 c. to 7 c warm water. Spray: Full Strength. Or use Citra Solve brand cleaner.
